What we pray to God and What God gives.
From the Evan Almighty movie someone mentioned these lines (haven’t watched it yet) and I started hunting the actual lines on the internet, i found it and here it is. Here are the words that Morgan Freeman playing God said. :
If someone prays for patience, you think God gives them patience? Or does he give them the opportunity to be patient? If he prayed for courage, does God give him courage, or does he give him opportunities to be courageous? If someone prayed for the family to be closer, do you think God zaps them with warm fuzzy feelings, or does he give them opportunities to love each other?
Now if you think about it — when we want to excel in say physical activities like badminton or arnis and in mental activities like being a better speaker or get better in school how do we go about it….
We engage in activities that will make us get better at it. If we want to get bigger muscles we go to the gym to be able to flex our muscles and get better. We keep going at it in order for us to develop our talents we practice and we train. You cant become better if you don’t even try.
Same with our inner self.. for us to gain courage we need to be given the chance or the opportunity to be courageous. For us to gain patience we must be in a situation that will test our patience. For us to gain inner strength we will be tested and tried until we cant take it anymore and were about to break… and then we become stronger.
For us to be better people we need to flex our inner self….
