Words to live by - on a bloody horoscope

July 30th, 2007

The Bottom Line
Stop multi-tasking. Do too many things at once, and you’ll do all of them poorly.

In Detail
It’s time to sit still. Your life is lived too often on the go — drive-through meals, cell phone conversations while you’re driving, and surfing the web while you’re watching TV are all great ways of multi-tasking — but are they great ways of living a centered life? Make an effort to live in the moment today — if you’re talking on the phone, talk on the phone. Don’t also be doing 55 on the highway. If you do too many things at once, you’ll do all of them poorly.

— so true

Here I still am

July 1st, 2007

Well now, it has been a while again since I last made an update over here ;)
I got to used to updating my other blog at http://badbeef.multiply.com.

Hmmm so what has been happening for me these past 3 months again?

Well got Gelyn to go to school now where I used to go as well in Elementary, heh Life is a Circle aint it :P

Finished my Informatics studies, went to the center to follow up on my grades. Found that the center had closed. (great) Still waiting for an email reply to see if I can get my grade and my certificate.

Trying to get married. Finally got the church and the reception booked. Now comes the nitty itty details that I loath to do :P

The 6 months of 2007 has gone and passed us. More focusing regarding my goals for the latter half of this year is required ;)

Brief stuff of the things i did.

March 31st, 2007

After the bora race i have been trying to get into physical shape again. Not an easy feat considering I hate exercising alone and had to "group activities"

So exactly what did i do?

– Did some airsoft on a Sunday — if you think running around with 20 pounds of gear is not exercising, you need to try it :D

– Went back to Badminton on Tuesdays and Thursdays

– Went back to doing Arnis on Fridays

Now if only I can maintain doing all of these things for 6 months then as Mike said, it would be a lifestyle change already and be locked doing this for the rest of my life, which aint bad really :)

The Manila to Boracay Race and the week in Bora

March 14th, 2007

Prologue

After a few years delays I finally was able to join the race from Manila to Boracay on board Challenge,  We had left  Manila bay at  2pm Saturday on March 3 and arrived at Boracay at 6:40am Monday March 5.

The most
memorable thing I can remember going to Boracay from Manila was after
spending the better part from 1am to 6am on deck with your jacket on
but still being chilled to the bone due to high winds, trying to snatch
some sleep with the choppy waves turning the boat to a bucking horse.
Still dawn was approaching and I was glad that shift was almost over.

I saw the sun starting to rise from the horizon between two islands and
you can feel the winds and waves starting to calm. What a sight to see,
the dawn breaking the fearful night…

and then the view gets
blocked by another boat as it turns ahead. And I’m thinking "F*** there
in front of us" and wondering how we were going to get ahead of them.

The wind and sea was calmer after that night. Heck it was too calm
since we got stuck with no wind once we hit Dumali Point. Finally after
8 hours of getting stuck there we got some wind and headed all the way
to Boracay.

Day 1 - Monday
We arrived at Bora just as the sun started to rise. After getting on
shore the drinks followed and just kept on coming. Got aquainted with
other crews from the different boats and together crashed a few bars
till early morning.

Day 2 - Tuesday
Just walked around Station 1 to Station 3. We did a practice sail in
the afternoon with the press people taking pictures. Had awards night
for the Manila to Bora race at Fairways — (Challenge though ending
with a good lead with the other boats unfortunately did not have enough
and got bumped to fifth after the handicaps were computed) Went to bed
since I still hadnt had enough sleep while the rest crashed more bars)

Day 3 - Wednesday
We had Gina Lopez on board with us as we had our first Long course. The
team chemistry was almost perfect. Even when the rig holding the kite
gave way we were able to recover and hoist everything again. We crossed
the finish line in less than 2 minutes after Sandoway
which meant that after adjustments we had beaten them. Beers passed all
around. Then after 5 minutes of revelry we got the bad news. We had
gone the wrong course and was placed at the bottom with the other boats
that went the wrong way.

  A dejected Challenge crew crashed
some bars afterwards. Met Gina’s other friends (it appears that they
had just rented a place there and where doing a house warming party)
Once again BomBom bar kept popping up. Her friends wanted to go to
another place but since it was 1am and there was still a race to go to
we declined and determined to get back with a vengeance and get line
honors for the President’s cup.

Day 4 - Thursday
After yet another early rainy day we went to Challenge and got the bad
news. There was a frayed cable line attached to the mast and it could
snap and bring it all down if there was any tension on it. Challenge
had to retire from the Pres Cup altogether!! This sucked big time
specially to those that just got to Bora to be able to compete for the
cup. Crud.

We decided to at least motor towards the racing
area so that the press people onboard could take some very good shots
of the race. Afterwards I decided that since we were out of the race I
might as well rebook my flight back to Manila a day earlier so I
woudlnt have to commute to Laluz to go after the family on a Sunday as
I had originally planned

(Hey as I had mentioned to the others. Boracay is a great place, but it’s just a beach. I came here to sail… oh well)

Went back to BomBom in the evening. Went to the other place after 1am
as there was no more impetous to wake up early. Headed back at 4am.

Day 5 - Friday
Had lunch with some of the crew (the rest had gone to other activities
like kite surfing or being crew on the other boats).Went mountain biking
with Ron to Mount Luho(?) took good shots from there ( come on Ron post
them already :D ) and busted the bike.

  Went to the house
warming party of Gina. Met the owner of the place named Ralph (from
Swiss who has been in the island for 21 years). Went back to BomBom and
closed the place down.

Day 6 - Saturday
Waved goodbye to Bora and arrived at Manila at 12noon. Got home just in
time to deposit my things before the folks came back to pick me up to
go to Tagaytay and then La Luz Batangas.

What a week. Now if only people would start posting pictures so I can nab some and post them here :)

Well the season is done. Gotta start doing my other hobbies.. and start training for next year :)

Another Monday — a new job

October 15th, 2006

Well after working for Accenture for 2 years and 8 months I have resigned from it last week and will be starting work on this new company today.

This makes working at Hobby Cafe still the longest job Ive ever held - being there for 3 years.

Am I soo easily board with work that I keep moving?

At times yes and at times outside forces require a need to change.

Lets hope with this one I finally stay in one place.

After the storm - life goes on

September 29th, 2006

Well it has been 2 days since the typhoon hit Metro Manila. Still no electricity at home, just passed by the internet shop running on generators to be able to check my mail before going to the office.

Life goes on

The Bottom Line

Clean out your emotional closet today. Let your outmoded feelings drift away.

In Detail

Isn’t it amazing that when you finally get around to cleaning out
your closet you end up throwing out so much more than you ever knew you
had? Make a pledge to yourself that you’ll never let your unused
possessions (emotional or physical) pile up like that again! Today,
clean out your emotional closet. There are many feelings, grudges or
regrets that are doing you no good … let these outmoded things pass
away. You’ll be amazed at how much lighter you feel.

Independence Day Regatta

July 18th, 2006

Well I was not able to join in the Fantasy GT for 2006 because I had a prior commitment ( I was at least able to to reserve the tables for the event though )

That prior commitment was to attend 2006 Independence Day Regatta at Subic :D
Im amazed that I was able to come back to Subic, a mere 2 months after being there last April for the Presidents Cup

As before I left the office on a Friday night and met up with Ron, Coke and Cezar along Edsa in front of Camp Crame for the trip north to Subic. After reaching Martin’s house and we unpacked everything I convinced Coke to go out and have a beer and then I showed them along the beach where we will be going.

The next day we had good winds to start off the race. There were 5 boats that competed:
- Challenge, Jo de Ros, Selma, Selma Star, Shiboomi, Magician(or was it Merlin?)

We had on board a crew of 9
- Martin, Ron, Jeanny, Paul, Coke, myself, Mang Rufino, another experienced hand whom I forgot his name, and our main trimmer Cezar.

With Devlin not showing up I turned into the appointed Mast man and made a mess of things as I forgot the different ropes again that are littered around Challenge. Still we did good time, we were actually ahead of Selma at the start of the last leg of the first race but we had to bring down the kite as the winds were too strong. We thus ended up third place.

During the night we once again met up with Thad and Vern and treated them all to that large Pizza at the Extreme Coffee shop again. Its nothing fancy really, but hey the pizza is good enough for long conversations :D

Next day saw us with two races. We were second on the first race ( due to Selma having the misfortune of having to a "man-overboard" exercise with someone falling into the drink) and I actually forgot about the last one. We eventually got third overall for everything. Though the next day was June 12 ( a holiday ) I unfortunately was requested to go to work so I had to cut my trip to Subic short again.

I hitched a ride with Chip on his Ford Explorer to the trip back to manila on a sunday evening and there learned the simple lesson that "Yes a Ford Explorer can get airborne with enough speed and momentum" :D
